Transport

At several border crossings free bus transport is available free of charge provided by municipalities:

  • from Vyšné Nemecké border crossing there is a free bus service to the railway station to Košice and Michalovce (cities from which you can travel by train)
  • in case that you don´t have a ride from the border crossing to another place, please find more information at the border police members or in the information stands.

Several official transport providers offer free national transport for Ukrainian citizens who can show a valid passport or ID card. Find out directly at the train or bus stations.

The possibility of passenger car transport within Slovakia is also available. Several organizations organize free transfers at border crossings. If you need help, fill in the form at https://www.helpukraine.sk or contact volunteers at information booths who have access to transport databases.

If you opt for private transport, be careful and check with your transport provider to avoid high charges and inconveniences. You can ask for an identity card and share the driver’s name and phone number with your loved ones.

The capital of Slovakia, Bratislava, has created an information point at the main railway station (Hlavná stanica) where you can find out all relevant information. Infopoint is also at the Nivy Bus Station. Public transport in Bratislava is free, you just need to prove yourself with a Ukrainian ID card or passport if asked.

Transport connections can be found at www.google.com/maps  as well as on the portal www.cp.sk

All cars up to 3.5 tons registered in Ukraine should have a waiver of the obligation to have a motorway stamp on Slovak motorways during the state of emergency.
