Health care

Urgent and life-saving care is provided free of charge to every person in Slovakia.
Persons who have applied for or have been granted temporary refuge (“departees”) are gaining access to urgent health care paid for by the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic. This is provided by the outpatient emergency service in the relevant region or city where the patient is located or at the central hospital reception in that city.

  • In case of special needs and on the basis of an individual assessment of the applicant’s health condition, the ministry also pays for the provision of other necessary health care.
  • The person can prove the right to the provision of health care only by a card of a foreigner requesting the provision of temporary refuge or a document about tolerated residence in the territory of the Slovak Republic marked “ODÍDENEC” (departee).

Persons who apply for asylum have secured health care in the facility in Humenné.
